HOW WELL DO YOU KNOW SUNSCREEN?
Here at Tubies, we want to put the fun back into sun safety; which is one of the many mantras behind our Tubies Omniband. Sun safety, especially in Australia, is a part of life that many of us look past and somewhat ignore. Making these healthy lifestyle choices should be part of everyone’s daily routine.
There’s a lot of misconceptions around sun safety and there’s probably a lot you don’t know! But that’s okay.
Together let’s test our knowledge on a few sun protection concepts and terms to really get your head in the game!
What does SPF stand for?
SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor!
Simply put, this is the measurement of how well the sunscreen protects your skin from the sun’s harsh rays. You can get SPF from 15 to 50+ here in Australia. Here at Tubies, we always recommend an SPF of 30 or above for the ultimate protection.
What’s the difference between UVA and UVB?
Ultraviolet A (UVA) and Ultraviolet B (UVB) are both types of light that are associated with skin cancer risk.
Although UVB is the light primarily associated with sunburn, both UVB and UVA contribute to increased sun cancer risk when exposed.
What does broad-spectrum mean?
Broad-spectrum sunscreens are the best kind! They help protect your skin from both UVA and UVB rays and decrease your risk of sun cancer. When purchasing a new sunscreen, be sure to check the label and make sure it is classified as broad-spectrum.
